Applying for Signature Membership

SIGNATURE MEMBER - Annual Dues $35

Signature Members may serve as elected board members and may be committee coordinators.

There are two paths to Signature Membership. An applicant may submit his or her work to be juried, in accordance with the instructions below. Alternatively, Artist members of the MPS in good standing are eligible for Signature membership after being accepted into three MPS juried exhibitions, calculated retroactively to the MPS's 2011 Shades of Pastel show. Eligibility is granted after being accepted into three separate shows; it is not based on the number of paintings juried into any single show.

If you choose to submit your work for jurying for Signature membership: scroll to the bottom of the page for a guideline of the "Principles of Design"; this is the document that the MPS uses in its review of applications for Signature Members, and it may assist you in critiquing your own work prior to submitting it for review. You will also find a downloadable Signature Membership Application Form.

In addition to the benefits of Artist membership, Signature Member artists may:

  1. Exhibit artwork in all MPS Signature Member exhibitions;
  2. Have two images displayed on a Gallery Page on the MPS website;
  3. Be a "Featured Artist" in the MPS quarterly news update; and
  4. Serve on the MPS Executive Board.

The artwork you submit for jurying must:

  1. Have been executed primarily (51% or more) in soft pastel;
  2. Be of your own original concept and execution, not derived from any published or created images to which you do not hold the copyright;
  3. Not have been executed in whole or in part in an instructor-led classroom or workshop setting; and
  4. Have been completed within the past two years
