SHADES OF PASTEL NATIONAL JURIED SHOW, 2009

Reminder to MPS Members!

Reminder to MPS Members
Don't forget that the deadline for entering the MPS's national show, Shades of Pastel, is July 3 – that's right around the corner! Richard McKinley, the juror, will be giving a demonstration on October 4, the day of the show's opening reception. The first 50 people who sign up for the demo (be on the look-out for the announcement of registration opening) will be able to attend at $30 per person.

The Maryland Pastel Society's biennial, national show, Shades of Pastel (SOP), will again be held at the stately Strathmore Mansion in Bethesda, Maryland.   The show will run from September 26 through November 7, with the opening reception scheduled for October 4.

We are very fortunate to have Richard McKinley as our juror this year.  Mr. McKinley is a signature member of several major art societies including the Pastel Society of America.  He is a regular contributor to the Pastel Journal and a very popular and highly respected workshop instructor.   Mr. McKinley has agreed to conduct a demonstration at Strathmore Mansion the morning of the reception.

At this point in the year, our SOP activity is centered on getting out the "call for entries."  Lisa Sheppard, corresponding secretary, has sent a call for entry to four magazines (American Artist, Pastel Journal, Artist's Magazine, and Art Calendar) and to one on-line publication (artshow.com).  I have already received several out-of-state requests for information.

As the prospectus states, the deadline for entries is July 3, so plan now to have your paintings prepared by then.  All entries need to be digital, therefore your images must be sent to me on a CD or by email.  Refer to the prospectus for details.

If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
